A raw food diet for dogs involves feeding your pet a meal consisting of uncooked and unprocessed ingredients. Raw food diet for pets can include a variety of different ingredients, including raw meat (such as beef, chicken, or turkey), bones, organs (such as liver or kidney), and vegetables. The idea behind this type of diet is that it mimics the natural diet of wild dogs, which typically eat prey animals and plants. Proponents of raw food diets believe that this type of diet is more natural and healthier for dogs than traditional kibble or canned dog food. This is a nutritional adequacy statement set out by AAFCO that means our food meets or exceeds their standards. AFFCO is not a certification, it is just guidelines. Dogs have a much higher tolerance for bacteria than humans. Think about all the times you’ve seen your dog sticking their nose in dirty things, drinking from puddles, or eating things off the ground! Dogs have three key defenses that help them deal with harmful bacteria: Remember that not all raw diets are created equal. Our Bold by Nature facility is USDA-licensed, and we only use USA, human-grade ingredients, certified humanely raised meats (GAP), and fresh, California organic vegetables (delivered fresh daily). Although raw food may mimic the texture and scent of meat, it does not heighten predatory behavior; this behavior is unchanged by diet and instead stems from the dog’s original ancestry. One of the major benefits of raw food is its increased palatability, which makes it highly appealing and triggers greater interest in your pet. It’s essential to manage natural instincts through appropriate environmental enrichment and feeding practices to create a harmonious living environment with pets. Raw food itself is not the problem. We recommend choosing freeze-dried food. Additionally, our Canine Support team is available if you need further advice. Feel free to send us an email at info@boldcanine.com Several methods exist for shifting your pet towards their raw food journey, each providing a unique approach for adapting your pet’s dietary habits. Cold Turkey approach: Switching your dog’s diet from kibble to raw food can be done immediately, provided your dog is in good health with no digestive problems. Keep a close watch on your dog’s weight and digestion during the transition. In the initial one to two weeks, it’s advised to stick to a single protein source. If there are no adverse digestive reactions, you can then introduce another protein source. The recommended rate for introducing new proteins is two per month. Starting with our ComplEat Turkey Dinner is a good option, given its lean composition and easy digestibility. Slow and steady wins the race: In the event that your canine companion has previously encountered digestive disturbances during a diet switch, our recommendation is to stretch the transition phase over a span of 5 to 10 days. Initiate the process by blending 75% of your dog’s existing diet with 25% of the new, raw food. Gradually adjust the mix to half-and-half, then 75% raw, eventually reaching 100% raw feed. This methodical approach can help mitigate potential digestive discomfort for your pet. Keep food frozen. When ready, thaw the necessary portion in the fridge. Patties and sliders will thaw within 12 hours (approximately). Store all unused portions in the fridge. Raw food should be used within 4 days. Handle all raw meat with appropriate care and hygiene. Wash all surfaces, bowls and utensils with hot, soapy water. Opting for a raw diet for your canine companion requires careful consideration of their body weight. It is recommended to continually monitor and adjust their food intake based on changes in their weight. The quantity of raw food required varies depending on the life stage and seasonal feeding needs of your dog. The level of your dog’s physical activity also significantly influences the required food portion size. Planning a raw diet for your dog necessitates a comprehensive understanding of these factors to ensure their health and wellbeing. Due to the high moisture content of our products, even a small amount of air entering the packaging can cause some of the moisture to be pulled out of the patty. This can result in the formation of ice crystals on the sliders or patties. However, as ice crystals are simply water in a frozen state, it is safe to consume the product. Color variations are to be expected when no antioxidants or chemicals are used in meat; our color changes should reassure consumers that we only use real ingredients and no synthetics. These patties are perfectly safe to feed. No. Cooking raw food is not recommended due to their bone content and the potential alteration of nutrient values. Raw dog food is specifically designed to be safe and nutritious when fed raw, preserving optimal digestibility and appeal. The cooking process changes nutrient levels and food qualities on a cellular level, which is not beneficial for raw dog food. While raw bones safely provide essential nutrients, cooked bones can pose serious hazards. We do not recommend refreezing thawed raw pet food. Refreezing can compromise the food’s quality and safety and accelerate spoilage. We do not recommend thawing our sliders or patties in the microwave, as it can alter their chemical composition and destroy vital nutrients. If you forgot to defrost the meal, place your pet’s portion in a BPA-free bag and submerge it in a bowl of cold water for a few minutes, or until it is thawed. If your dog doesn’t finish their meal, you can leave the portion at room temperature for 15 minutes. After that, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours before discarding. Crafted in the USA in our USDA Process Verified – Human Grade facility. USA, human-grade ingredients. Bold by Nature used 100% human grade ingredients. We do not use HPP. Our first step in ensuring bacteria is at a minimum is using 100% human grade USDA certified ingredients, pathogen tests are actually done before the meat gets to our facility. The meat also stays frozen through the whole manufacturing process to minimize the chance of bacterial growth. Additionally, we use bacteriophage for log reduction and then finally we hold and test each batch until lab results are confirmed negative. We also produce in 1800lb batches which is very small. And the meat is harvested and quickly processed after slaughter, as per our strict food safety standards, to prevent the growth of bacteria. We fully understand the severity of food allergies and sensitivities, this is why we have very strict procedures when it comes to avoiding cross contamination. Typically, we only produce 1 protein per day. At the end of our production day, a sanitation crew comes in to clean the facility from top to bottom, including all machinery and equipment. Once the sanitation crew is complete, one of our supervisors comes in to inspect all the machinery before production. If we do produce 2 proteins in one day, all the machines are sanitized in between shifts, and the same procedures above are taken. Our plastic is BPA Free and Food Grade. Yes, our plastic is recyclable.
